Be Italian!

With costume design close to my heart, I got goose bumps when I saw the trailer for the upcoming movie Nine.

It's a feast for the eyes, with the Fellini, burlesque feeling costumes worn by the female cast memebers (Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Fergie, Sophia Loren and Dame Judi Dench). Daniel Day Lewis looks like a modern day Marcello Rubini from La Dolce Vita.

Oscar winning Costume Designer Colleen Atwood, never ceases to amaze me with her ability to make you want to be just like the characters she's bringing to life particularly in this film. (Bowing down to her here!) Me,  I want to be like the sexy, sultry Italian Carla played by Penelope Cruz and be driven around in a little covertible sports car along the Italian Coast with Daniel Day Lewis as my driver!

Does fashion or costume design make you want to see a movie, tell us we want to know?

YES! I love costumes in a movie! I could go on endlessly but I loved the costumes in "Mists of Avalon", "Labyrinth", "Lord of the Rings". I'm very much into fantasy & the ocassional time period of fashion and/or costuming. I can sit & drool for hours wishing I knew how to sew or knew a better seamtress to re-create a costume of my own. I love the burlesque styles in this trailer. Movies with high fashion & costumes have a huge draw to me & I tend to watch them over & over. Might as well toss in Pirates of the Caribbean! I'm very eccletic in tastes. :)

Isnt that what the movie experience is all about? Being sucked in and taken away to another place and time? No one can achieve that successfully without the grand facade of beautiful costume. Creating the fantasy, living the dream, that is what is hopefully conveyed. From the trailer, this film is rich with visual excitement. To the nines!

A Single Man is the most recent example of such an itch on my part, though I'm at least twice as much interested in the content etc. Mad Men is another one. Or I Dream of Jeannie when I was a schoolgirl.. Umm.. I think I like the sixties..? :)

Most definitey! I am a very visual person, if the clothes are not catching my attention, then how is the movie going to keep it? I love feeling like I am in the movie and I think that the clothes (and make-up) play a big part in that. Then again there is one movies... Dirty Dancing that I feel from the music to the clothes were not exactly historically accurate but for some reason I still love it.
