Pop Cyborgs at AMA

There was a clear theme that dominated many of the stage performances at the American Music Awards last night, Pop Cyborg. The 3 strongest representations of this were by artists The Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

After being introduced by her co-stars from the movie Nine, Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas emerged singing "Meet Me Halfway" in their leather clad ensembles. Who really stood out from the group was Will.I.Am. Brilliantly, came out in a pompadour wig, space boots, and rhinestone coat looking like an extra terrestrial Elvis. What ended up being the most creative part of their performance was the back up dancers. Emulating Transformer-like speakers that came alive and started dancing once "Boom, Boom, Boom" kicked in.

Rihanna's performance  started with a video clip of herself coming to life as a cyborg, clearly inspired by the movie Terminator. She then dropped down to the stage in a white cut out number with what seemed to be  spikes on shoulder pads until they started shooting out red laser beam lights.

Lady Gaga, is the one who has really made this theme a staple in her performances, came out in her signature leotard with a Vulcan like headpiece and skeletal armor that lit up as she belted out songs from her new album.

Janet & J.Lo take note, if you want to stay on top then you need to step up it up a notch all around! And Adam Lambert, there are no words for what I saw (grimacing) as I type this.
