Golden Do's & Don't

The two most important accessories of last nights Golden Globes were an umbrella to keep dry and on a more serious note a red ribbon to show support for the devastation that has struck Haiti this past week. Overall it was an ok red carpet, nothing to die over, but some questionable choices.

Golden Do's

1. Ruffles Please

These ladies were the stand out style stars of the evening. Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix is my winner of the night.

 2.Metallics, Sequence & Beading Always

3. Always Bet on Black

When in doubt a black evening dress is the way to go. Some of us forgot we were going to the glamorous Golden Globes not to Mr.Chow's for dinner,Julia!

4. Dapper "Dons"

Jon Krasinski & Emily Blunt best couple, his navy tux was a nice compliment to her dress. Jon Hamm was a big FAIL, the double breasted tux and over grown beard, not so Dapper Don!

Golden Don'ts

1. Don't Let the Dress Wear You!

Anna Kendricks fire your stylist if you have one or get one stat! How old are you? You look like a Jersey cougar getting married for the second time.

2. Don't Put Your Own Golden Globes on Display at the Golden Globes, Mariah!

It's as tacky as the speeches you've been giving around town. Please take a note from Halle Berry, she knows how to show off the ladies nicely.

3. Don't bring a date that looks young enough to be your grand daughter, Mickey.

By the way what the hell was that on your head? Is it a fedora or cowboy hat, whatever it was, DON'T do it again. The invite was for the Golden Globes not a Pimp & Ho Party.

Fun blog! You did a great job! And yes, love the Mickey Rourke comment. Yeah, when the woman is that attractive and the man that ugly, she is in it for the love, right :)

Wow, my favourite pick was Chloe Sevigny Valentino gown. I thought it looked much better on her than it did on the runway.

Sal, Chloe knows how to work a dress. I'm usually not a fan of hers, but I think she looked amazing. It was just dramatic enough not to be over done. She looked chic, and I have to say there were only a handful who did. It was a less than stellar style turn out for me. So many people got it wrong!

Hey Johanna, love your blogs, they are fresh , funny and so enjoyable to read . Just wanted to say i loved what Courteney Cox was wearing, her black dress was beautiful & she wore it well. Didn't care for what Julia Roberts wore, but that's just my opinion.
Glad to see that none of the men sported man skirts!! hee hee

keep up the GREAT work hun!!!

Love this blog entry as watching the red carpet is one of my favorite to do's. Would love to have had a bit more commentary about why you chose Diane's dress as the best, what was it that you liked, what made her stand out, also would have loved to have seen some comments about hair and accessories (other than the umbrella which was a must). Thanks for doing this. I look forward to your next post.

First time posting on your website. Love your blogs, keep up the good work. I personally dd not like Chloe's dress. Too much for me. I like a more simple style. Jennifer Garner's dress blew me away. She looked amazing. This is an exciting time of year in Hollywood with all of the award shows coming up. Looking forward to reading more from your site.

Hey Jo...I was so curious to see what you thought worked last night and I was almost dead on to what you were thinking...I have to say I did love Sandra Bullocks dress though...the color was so fun and stood out...although Pete was key in nailing her down asking "what do you call that look?" ... I couldnt figure out if I loved that or hated it. My greatest disappointment was Drew Barrymore who I LOVE...the color was magical but the dress itself was ridiculous...and what about Cameron???she's always so edgy and fun...not this time! And either her lipstick was running or someone forgot to tell her that you dont drink red wine before you go up to present. Ok, theres my shallow two cents!! XO

Oh, Pete was addressing SB;s HAIR...loved the dress but the hair fell between just had sex in the bathroom messy and elegant ...in a bad way!!!

Tricia,
I picked her because everything from head to toe was perfect on Diane. The color suited her well, the dress looked chic, I loved the ruffling on top, I'm happy she wore her hair back, the color and makeup made her eyes pop. Even her date looked great on her arm. A++++. I wish Jennifer Aniston would do something with that mop, get over your chin, it's not that big, and she always looks the same, never changes, sign of insecurity!!!

No to ruffles in my opinion, Julia's necklace a big "hell no", Halle Berry was classy while Mariah could take a cue from her. Jennifer Garner looked good, Drew Barrymore was cute but the dress wasn't right on her & it's ok that we agree to disagree on Sandra Bullock's dress. I liked it and Jesse James cleans up quite nicely. I liked Nicole Kidman's gown as well. A lot of it was a blur once it got started because I was bored to tears. So glad you took kindly to Michael C. Hall's not so stylish look. I explained to a few people who went crazy over the "beanie" look that Michael C. Hall is fighting cancer. After that was said a lot of people wished him well & backed off the bad hat move. Mickey Rourke was the worst even out of all the women.

Who was it again that had her dress stepped on up on stage as well as ripped?

Ya, I'd probably be a fashion don't as I like blues, purples, silvers...and like you said...safest bet is black. Here's hoping the fashion for the Academy Awards looks better.

Thanks Johanna for doing the fashion blog. You have a a great eye for fashion. But i am not sold on Chloe's dress,. Diane had a very fresh look. I love to see color on the red carpet. It took me a wihile to decide if Kate Hudson's dress was wearing her. Therefore, I really think the dress is actually very pretty on her. I love the new take on the beaded gowns. Heather Graham and Elisabetta are my faves on the red carpet.

QS & Jo,
A lot of people chose to wear purple which I don't have a problem with, it's the shade SB chose and the cheap looking fabric that did her no favors. Not a fan of the hair either, but I am a fan of her graciousness and how in love with her hubby she is. Drew Barry more almost got it right, but the 2 alien things on her shoulder and hip caused it not to work for me. Cameron Diaz, body is amazing like the red dress, the hair was a fail. I hate that she never does the hair! A neat pony tail would have been better than that sloppy mess. I really loved the Lanvin dress January wore, but then she F'd it up with that stupid head band. For someone who didn't want to be Betty Draper, why the head band. Just slick it back, the red lips and dress were all she needed. And Toni Collette just seems to be getting younger every year, she is working on her fitness, the dress she wore showed off her back nicely. Oh, and Fergie & Josh need to lay off the bronzer!!!

I dont know if this one actually made it to the "Red Carpet", but it was by far my fav at the Globes. http://tinyurl.com/ye3loey

I loved Jennifer Garner, Chloe & Emily's looks for sure!

Right:
Halle Berry - red carpet dress, and she knows how to carry it off. I wasn't too hot on her spiky hair though.
Elisabetta Canalis - loved the detail on the dress but I think it would've been spectacular in a bolder color. Her hair was too pedestrian and took away from it. Should've been up!
Kate Hudson - the lines of the dress with the peplum-y waist really was gorgeous but the top ruffle from the side was too distracting. Her hair? Perfection.

Wrong:
Julia Roberts - what was she thinking?? Gotta say though I love her blonde.
Sandra Bullock - this is not the prom.
Jennifer Aniston - the dress really wasn't the issue. She just can't pull something like that off. She doesn't know how to carry herself. Again, pedestrian.
Tina Fey - WTF??

Disappointing though. No show-stoppers.
