Is Marie Claire Really Giving Us the Naked Truth?
Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 7:17AM Good Morning everyone! My eyes are still a little sleepy so this will be short and sweet. Back to this whole photoshop/body image issue. Just when I thought it was going to die down, we start the year off with this redundant issue. I guess this will make some people happy, a model on the cover of a major magazine, with NO PHOTOSHOPPING, encouraging women to be themselves.
Well the fact of the matter is that this model doesn't represent the majority of society's women. Quite frankly all it's done is caused more people to complain, which just proves you can please some people some of the time, but not all people all of the time. Read an excerpt from the article below:
"The thing is unfortunately it doesn't make the same point, because Jennifer sells magazines and she creates awareness. If 'Marie Claire' had chosen to put on their cover an ordinary women, say myself or a friend of yours, it would not have created the awareness it does."
I have to agree with the quote above. The model is paid to sell magazines, I'm quite sure if they put a Size 10 or Size 12 everyday woman on the cover, people could care less. It's just my opinion, I buy magazines for fantasy, not to build my self esteem!
What do you think, is Marie Claire Australia really giving us "The Naked Truth"? I want to hear your thoughts please post in comment below.

Well, let's say MC gives us a very small part of the naked truth, because these thin models with flawless bodies actually exist. As you already said the vast majority of women does not look like that. But who's saying it won't sell?
In Germany there's a women's magazine called "Brigitte" that's been selling very well for a very long time. They've started a campaign called "without models". They've invited their female readers to send in pictures and a short description of themselves. The goal being to use them as models in future issues in order to make the magazine more real. To show fashion on real women and not on models. The first aspiring reader models are being shown in the current issue and on their website http://www.brigitte.de/mode/ohne-models/ohne-models-10-frauen-1045225/
In my humble opinion: They look good, despite the fact not all of them are young and wear a size smaller than 10. But they have one thing some real models don't have: Personality that actually shows in the picture...
Btw: I'm 47 and a size 10
This is not the average size, but this MC Naked Truth photo is reminding me that I have to start working out before my wedding...so in that case, I appreciate the reminder...being able to take a photo in the nude shows some type of confidence, even if it's backed up by large monetary incentives. ^-^ I will never look like this, but can do my best to look the best I can for myself (and the hubby-to-be.)
I'm so not hopping on my soap box again ;P
I'm doing water aerobics but my body will never look like that. Yes the model is paid for what she does. I don't pick up those kind of magazines unless there is an article I really want to read. I'm past size 10 or 12 & have been for most of my adult life. Doesn't mean I can't strut around in my costumes & have fun at a photo shoot (when I can find a photographer).
On a very random note I must add that when I was in middle school my dad went to France & brought me back Elle magazines. I had so much fun going through French magazines granted I had no clue what I was reading!
QS,
This is exactly my point, you clearly have a positive attitude of your self and don't need some magazine telling you, oh look we get you and how you are feeling about having to be "normal". We all have things we don't like about ourselves, we are the only ones who can chose to change it or accept it.
I love the European Mags, French Elle and French Vogue are so beautiful to look at! I think I was secretly a French woman who loved Coco Chanel in her past life!
