When Models Were Super
Monday, February 22, 2010 at 2:39PM Like most people whose jobs revolve or are related to fashion, I've been keeping up with the runway shows for the next season. However, I have to admit, I really haven't been into it, it's tough to watch. Then I read something on the Huffington post about Calvin Klein using Kristy Hume and Stella Tenant in their show and it hit me - today's runway models BORE me! I'm longing for the days of Cindy, Christy, Linda, Claudia, Naomi and Kate. Those models had personality, their bodies were feminine, and they knew how to walk and work clothes. There's a reason why Rupal wrote a song about them, that George Michael put them in his Freedom video and why they are still around today making appearances again for big houses such as Chanel and Calvin Klein - they are icons.
If the modeling world had a hall of fame, the women on the cover of my archived 1992 Vogue would all be in it.

'm posting one of the all time best fashion documentaries, Issac Mizrahi's "Unzipped". It marks the height of the SUPERMODEL and the excitement created when they walked the a runway!
Does anyone else feel there is something lacking with the models of the runway today? Please post your comments below.

Oh how I loved the eighties and early nineties. Excess in full swing. Having been in my early twenty's then, I can say that I loved seeing how all the beautiful people lived. Supermodels were everywhere then. Now it's rare you see them unless you are reading a fashion mag or watching a runway. Celebrities have taken over all the covers. Models are not as well known to people that are not in the fashion business. So, for me, I just don't pay attention to the new models like I used too. It's probably not their faults :) ... Great blog. That's one of my favorite videos ever. It was directed by David Fincher by the way.
Yes - now it seems like "celebrities" are taking up all magazine covers - I hate that because you have your Snooki's or JWoww's taking up that space. I can't even remember the days when Supermodels took up covers. SIGH.
